Introduction
Organizations experience many different types of crises. There may be one

emergency plan that will be applied to many different situations. In order to

adapt such a plan quickly to each unique situation, you should be able to

readily recognize some key factors of a crisis. This assignment will help you

develop this ability

Complete this assignment by doing the following:

Read the account of Northwest Airlines Flight 255, found in Chapter 5 of your

textbook. For more details on the account, you may wish to view the NTSB’s

accident report Preview the document View in a new window or perform your own

Internet research.
Prepare a document that answers the questions that follow. Your answers can

be in question and answer format (meaning this assignment does not need to be

a narrative paper); however, your answers should reflect good writing skills

and demonstrate clarity, correct spelling and grammar, and appropriate use of

APA citations when referencing others’ ideas, articles, Web sites, etc.
Identify at least five stakeholders in this accident. Why is each

group/person considered a stakeholder? (10 Points)
What role did organizational perception play in the crisis? (10 Points)
How did stakeholder perception influence Northwest Airlines’ execution of its

crisis plan? (15 Points)
How did stakeholder perception affect the crisis outcome? (10 Points)
Recall the eight principles of crisis communication covered in your text

(pages 109-112). Choose three principles and explain how Northwest Airlines

applied or failed to apply each of these three principle during the crisis.
